William "Bill" Vick Crook's Obituary
II TimothyChapter 4, verse 7“ I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith.William “Bill” Vick Crook went to be with his Lord November 21, 2017.Bill was born on May 2, 1923, in Red Banks Mississippi to Emmet Hunter Crook and Lena Vick Crook. He was the fourth of seven children. Bill was promoted two grades in elementary school, graduated high school at age sixteen. Due to the influence of one of his high school teachers, he went on to enroll at the University of Missouri. In his junior year, he met his future bride, Helen Lucille Keen. He graduated in June of 1943 and two weeks later entered the Army. Following armored OCS he was commissioned 2nd Lt. in December 1943.He married Helen Keen on January 30, 1944.In August of 1946, he was discharged from the Army and taught one year in Campbell, Mo. At the encouragement of a college friend, Bill came to Texas and started a fifty-year career with Great American Reserve Insurance Company. Great American took him to Bellville, Texas, Amarillo, Texas and then in 1955 to Dallas. During his career with Great American he started in sales, then Manager of the Amarillo agency, Vice President of Training, Dallas City Manager, and then back to sales. He was a manager of the Dallas Agency from 1960 to 1975. During this time the Dallas Agency was an agency of the year many times. He was Man of the Year in 1978 and 1981. He credits his most rewarding years as those from 1975 till retirement when he worked closely with the employees of Mesquite ISD.Bill and Helen loved to travel. Great American took them on many company trips and in later years they would spend much time in Colorado and Hawaii.He was preceded in death by his parents; wife Helen K. Crook; infant son William V. Crook Jr.; brothers, John H. Crook, Lowry R. Crook; sisters Lura C. Eubanks, Mamie Crook and Amy C. Daniels.He is survived by sister Mable Lynn McKinstry of Winder GA; daughter Laura C. Milligan and husband Joe E. Milligan of Commerce Texas; son Thomas W. Crook and wife Cindy K. Crook of Grapevine Texas; son David K. Crook and wife Sharon Roland of Cross Roads Texas; grandchildren Matthew W. Milligan and wife Polly S. Milligan of New York City, Tyler K. Milligan and wife Jenni K. Milligan of Carrollton Texas; Kelly E. Crook and husband Mike Badescu of Coppell Texas; Parker W. Crook and wife Amy J. Crook of Argyle Texas and Stephanie C. O’Sullivan and husband Evin O’Sullivan of Dallas Texas. Great grandchildren Ian and Cora Milligan, Ella and Anna Badescu.Visitation will be at Restland, Tuesday, November 28th 6:00 pm till 8:00 pm.A graveside service will be held at Restland, November 29th at 2:00pm.In lieu of flowers, please donate in Bill’s name to a charity of your choice.
