William Guy Wilkinson's Obituary
William Guy Wilkinson, 76, a highly respected citizen of Double Oak, Denton County, TX, passed away February 2, 2015 after battling with Diabetes and Kidney disease. Bill was born in Flat Rock, DeKalb County, Alabama on December 5, 1938 and grew up in Shamrock, Texas. He joined the Air Force as an Airman First Class in 1958 and served in Germany for four years. He moved to Dallas to work for Collins Radio and where he met his much-loved wife of 51 years, Laura Leigh Tucker on a blind date. They lived in Carrolton, Texas for 30 years. Bill had a successful career at Rockwell Collins (formally Collins Radio) for 33 years. At Rockwell Collins he worked as a project manager on the Tacamo project, the first nuclear survivable communications links from planes to submerged submarines. His love of the Lord was shown by being a trustee of his church for many years and doing lots of repairs and projects for the church. In addition to a busy professional life, he made his family a priority. One of his goals was to make sure his children had a good education and were self-sufficient. He was active as a Cubmaster and Assistant Scout Master for many years during his son’s scouting days. He even made sure his little girl knew how to change a tire! Bill had a love of civic duty and politics. After retirement, he and Laura moved to Double Oak where he was very active in the town government. He served on the town council for 4 years prior to being elected Mayor from 1999 to 2003. During his term as mayor he was instrumental in both Town Hall & Fire Department Construction. From 2004 to 2010 he served on the Bartonville water board. Family and friends would say about Bill: he is the first one in line to lend a hand, he could tell the longest funniest stories, and always had a twinkle in his blue eyes while he was teasing you. His hobbies included vacationing with his family, especially to Branson Missouri, farming, motorcycling, and couponing. He always had a coupon in his pocket! Bill is survived by his wife, Laura Leigh Tucker; two children, Michael Ray Wilkinson and his wife, Sandra (Gaddis) Wilkinson, of Richardson, TX and daughter, Vicki Ann (Wilkinson) Hall and her husband, Brian Hall of Keller, TX; his two grandsons, Andrew Alan Hall and Travis William Hall; sister, Alma Irene (Wilkinson) Carver; many nieces and nephews, Sharon Denise (Falconer) Womboldt, Linda Irene (Carver) Angel, Tammy Gaylene (Carver) Davidson, Donna (Robinson) Jouglard, and nephews, Kevin Wade Falconer, Michael Wayne Carver; and many close friends, in particular, his lifelong friends Julio Borroto, Gene Wenzel, Ralph Turnipseed, and Cousin Jimmy Ball. Bill is preceded in death by his grandparents, Benjamin Moore Wilkinson Jr., Martha (Gardenhire) Wilkinson, John Henry Austin, and Marena Alice (Howard) Austin; his parents, Duke Aleric Wilkinson and Polly Anne Gertrude (Austin) Wilkinson; his sister, Alice Gertrude (Wilkinson); his two brother-in-laws, Theodore Wade Falconer and Thurman Wayne Carver. Bill was a wonderful giving, patriotic, Christian man and we were blessed by knowing him. He will be missed.
