William Leo (W.L.) Reid Sr.'s Obituary
REID, WILLIAM LEO (W.L.) age 93, of Richardson, Texas, passed away peacefully on September 15, 2013 surrounded by his three children. He was born on July 19, 1920 in Tyler, Texas to Elmer and Dora Reid. After graduating from high school, W.L. enrolled in the Coast Guard and served for six years. He married Margaret Laura Johnson in 1942 in Baltimore, Maryland. In 1946, they moved back to Texas where they actively worshipped at First Baptist Church in Richardson. W.L. worked for Ford Motor Company in their assembly plant and was also a typesetter at The Dallas Times Herald and The Dallas Morning News. In 1965, W.L. began a career as a custom home builder. He built many homes in North Dallas, Richardson and Plano over the next twenty years. W.L. and Margaret enjoyed traveling all over the world and especially liked going on mission trips and fishing excursions. He retired and they moved to Tyler, Texas for the next eleven years. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, tutoring children and was an active member of Green Acres Baptist Church. After being diagnosed with cancer in 2005, they moved back to Richardson, TX and returned to their church family at First Baptist Church. They enjoyed many more years living near their children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren and long-time friends. W.L. is survived by his children, Bill Jr., Bob and wife, Olena, and Joy White and husband, Jon, all of Richardson; 8 grandchildren; and 9 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his brother, Glenn Reid and sisters, Jerry McMenamey and Beth Allen; and by numerous nieces and nephews. W.L. was preceded in death by his wife, Margaret Reid; his parents, Elmer and Dora Reid; sister, Myrtice Watson and brother, Elmer Reid. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home from 6 to 8 PM on Tuesday, September 17. A private burial will be followed by a memorial service at 1:00 PM on Wednesday, September 18 at First Baptist Church in Richardson, TX, 1001 N. Central Expressway.
