William Harvey Wood Jr.'s Obituary
William Harvey Wood, Jr. (“Bill Wood”), was born in Terrell, Texas on January 27, 1921 to William Harvey and Eula Rush Wood. His father died January 20, 1921, one week before Bill was born. His mother later married Anderson Owens and the family moved to Durant, Oklahoma. Bill was preceded in death by his step-father, Anderson Owens; his mother, Eula Owens; siblings Nigel Wood, Dortha Foster, Virginia Owens, Willie Harmon, Betty Owens; and his loving wife of 64 years, Farice Stout Wood and only son, Jeffrey Lynn Wood. He is survived by former daughter-in-law Carol Wood; grandson, Justin Smith and great grandson Hudson Carter Smith. Bill graduated from high school in 1939 in Blue, Oklahoma. He met his wife, Farice, in 1942 and later that year they married on August 15, 1942. The two relocated to Dallas, Texas where Bill served in the Army for a short time. In 1944, he began work for Dayton Rubber Company in Dallas, where he worked until 1952. At that time, he joined Bearing Chain & Supply and became a partner in Cottingham Bearing in 1960 where he stayed until the Company was sold in 1985. He remained retired for one year and then went back into business at Southwest Bearing in Dallas, Abilene, Sweetwater, Big Spring, Brownwood, Amarillo, Dumas, Paris, Tyler and Nacogdoches, until the businesses were sold in 2000. In 1985, he was one of the founding directors of Addison National Bank which was sold in 2000. Bill was a member of the Church of Christ for many years. A memorial service will be held at 3:00 PM, Saturday, June 10, 2017 in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the charity of your choice.
