Willie Mae "Billie" Malone's Obituary
Willie Mae Malone, known by her friends and family as Billie, was born on May 18th,1923 to share croppers, Tommy and Emma Gordon, in Lindale, Texas. She was the 5th of 9 children, and the 2nd oldest of 5 girls, known to many as the Gordon Girls. It was in Lindale that she met her husband, Wylie Malone, she fell in love with him when she was 12, and they were wed in May 1942. Billie followed Wylie as he served in the Army during WWII while raising their 3 oldest children, before settling in Mesquite in 1956 where they welcomed their youngest into the family. Billie not only loved her family well, she also became a life time member of the PTA, served her community by volunteering for Sharing Life Community Outreach, and actively served her church through prayer chains, in Sunday School classes, and at Vacation Bible Schools. After the passing of her husband in 1986, Billie poured her life into her family and friends and could often be found with grandchildren in tow, or on a trip with her Sunday School Class. Billie lived 92 love filled years before passing in her sleep on September 28th, 2015 in Rockwall, Texas. She is survived by her sister Emily Featherston, her children James Malone, Donnie Malone, La Dell Tullos, and Michelle Singleton, and a gaggle of grandchildren, great grandchildren, and great great grandchildren. The Family will receive loved ones on September 30th, 2015 from 6:00-8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Billie’s Life Celebration will be held on October 1st, 2015 at 11:00 AM at her home church, First Baptist Mesquite, 127 E Kimbrough St, Mesquite, TX. In Lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Alzheimer’s Association at alz.org/donate.asp.
