Willie Paul Hicks' Obituary
92, World War II, U.S. Army Veteran passed away Thursday, January 2, 2008. Born in Greenville, Texas, July 17, 1915, to Vernettie Bell Walker Hicks and Willie Lee Hicks. He was a twin brother to Pauline Hicks Walker who recently passed away. He was the last surviving member of the Hicks family. Paul served in the Aleutian Islands during WWII. After the war he returned to Texas met and married Sally De Long, he retired from Huey Philips Hardware, in Dallas. During this time he became an active member of The Dallas County Sheriffs Reserve. He was on duty when President John F. Kennedy made his last trip to Texas. He was also an active member of the VFW post #6796. He was an excellent dance and always-in demand by the ladies. He loved to sing and tell stories of his life, some relating to his beloved cat Patches. The last year and a half he returned to Crandall, Texas. Being lovingly cared for by Bobbie Jungjohan and family. He was well known in the Crandall & Kaufman community that he loved. He is survived by daughter, Edna Sandborn of Ocean Sprins, MS; granddaughter, Brenda Bucci of Ocean Springs, MS and great grandchildren, Quint Gaskill and wife Julia of Tehachapi, CA, Lacey and Randy Fine and family of Pea Ridge Arkansas; his nephews, Kenneth and Mary Jo Walker, Ft. Myers, FL, Don and Judith Walker, Carrollton, TX; nieces, Betty Whitsell, Garland, TX, Eva and Bill Collinsworth, Pittsburg, TX. With a large surviving number of great great grand children, nieces and nephews. His wife Sally, parents, brothers J.E and Leon, Hicks and sisters Jewel Parmely, and twin Pauline Walker preceded him in death.
