Willie Eugene Kinsey's Obituary
W. Eugene (Gene) Kinsey died at his home suddenly January 10, 2009. He was born in Bamberg, SC on January 2, 1940 to Lauren and Letha (Medlin) Kinsey. He is predeceased by his siblings Louie, Lillie, Margie, Robert, Earl and Deloris, a special cousin Bobbie Jean Lipscomb of SC and his parents. He is survived by his wife Sue Ann Richardson Kinsey, and his new puppy Sophie, his brothers and their wives Francis Edward and Elaine Kinsey of GA, James Larry and Cora Kinsey of SC, brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law Mary and Bob Bevill of Granbury, Thomas and Linda Richardson of Shreveport, LA and Cindy and Jerry Madden of Minden, LA, his uncle Frank Merritt of Gibsland, LA and numerous nieces and nephews. He also leaves to cherish his memories a very special “niece” Laura White and her parents Sherry and David White of Houston, TX, numerous cousins and a host of friends. Gene was a passionate man who honored his ancestors through his work with the Sons of Confederate Veterans. He was camp commander of the William H. L. Wells Camp in Plano and was recently named as 4th Brigade Commander. He worked tirelessly to help the organization grow and to instill a love of history and of genealogy in those he met. He loved coordinating re-enactments and participating as well. His favorite hobby was dressing in his Confederate uniform and going to re-inactments or events with his wife. Gene also loved the history of World War II and flying with whomever he could talk into taking him for a ride in vintage planes at airshows. He was previously a member of the Security Detachment of the Confederate Air Force. A memorial service will be held at Restland Funeral Home on Tuesday, January 13, 2009 at 12:30 PM. Donations may be made to the Sons of Confederate Veterans and sent to Cody Marshall, Division Adjutant, PO Box 2618, Abilene, TX 79604-2618 or the Texas Civil War Museum, 760 Jim Wright Freeway N, Ft Worth, TX 76108. Additionally, a special service for his re-enactment friends and SCV brothers will be held at a later date.
