Wilson Weatherford and I grew up together in Dallas, both ROTC at Woodrow Wilson, and both long time
Scouts in Troop 42, both Eagle Scouts and pictured in the Dallas Morning News received our God and Country Award
in the Sanctuary of St. Andrew’s Presbyterian Church, Rev. James E. Detweiler, then pastor, presenting this award.
with Charles M.Hudgins, Jr. whose father owned and operated the Belmont Pharmacy a few blocks from the Weatherford
home on McComas.. Wilson’s Father known as Q was also a great friend and supporter of our Scouting activities.
All three of us owe a profound debt to the love, leadership, commitment and continuing service
to generations of young men at that church and its Boy Scout Troop. That was a dimension not covered in the wonderful
obituary. I was recently the guest preacher at St. Andrew’s Church, on a Scout Sunday, and to my delight and amazement
Troop 42 continues to have great impact of young men. I had the Eagle board of honor brought into the service and
there were 130 names of Eagle Scouts, Wilson, Charles and myself being some of the early recepients – and attending were
Scouts who had just completed requirements and would soon be added to the 130. What a wonderful record and what wonderful Scouts. Salute to Wilson: you did your best, you did your duty you keep your h0nor bright so dear friend
may you sleep in peace tonight and forever.
