Yancey Robinson King Jr.'s Obituary
Yancey Robinson (Bob) King, Jr., age 75, of Dallas, Texas passed away at his home on Sunday, October 19, 2008 from complic-ations of cancer. Bob was born on September 27, 1933 in Washing-ton D.C. to Frances Jane and Yancey Robinson King, Sr. He grew up residing over the family owned “King’s Drugstore” along with his younger brother, Ronald Frank. The family attended East Washington Heights Baptist Church where he met his future bride, Margaret Ellen (Peggy) Smith and the two were married on June 22, 1956. Bob graduated from Carson Newman College in Jefferson City, TN in June 1956. After graduation and marriage, Bob and Peggy lived in Virginia, Kentucky, Houston, and Kansas before settling in Dallas in 1970. Bob’s sales career began in the oil industry and then transitioned to general merchandising and sales for Colgate, Squibb, Beachnut/ Lifesavers and Planters/Lifesavers. Bob was promoted from Sales Representative to District Mana-ger, Division Manager, Key Account Manager and National Key Account Manager. He received numerous awards includ-ing Manager of the Year in 1973, 1978, and 1981. He also was awarded trips to three Super Bowls, London, Madrid, Puerto Rico, Cancun and the Pan American Games. Bob retitred from Planters/Lifesavers, a division of Kraft, in January of 1994. Bob and Peggy were married for 52 years and have three daughters, Deborah Ellen King, Plano, TX, Margaret Susan Clay (Jeff), Vancouver, BC, and Cheryl Robin Owens (Tracy), Dallas, TX. They have three grandchildren, Jordan Michelle Owens, Grant Taylor Owens, and Tyler Ryan Clay. Bob has one brother, Ronald F. King (Karen) of Jacksonville, NC, one brother-in-law, James F. Smith (Patricia) of Davidsonville, MD, one sister-in-law, Mary L. Burch of Montross, VA and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Bob and Peggy have been members of Prestonwood Baptist Church since October 1980. They enjoyed their Kingdom Seekers Bible Class and were founding members of the Agape Bible Study Class where Bob served as Associate Director for many years. Bob was always faithful in his usher duties and served in that capacity until he became ill. In June of 2008, Bob and Peggy renewed their wedding vows as part of Prestonwood’s “Blessing of Marriage” ceremony. Bob was active on the board of the Estates West Home Owners Association where he served as Crime Watch Chairman, writing a monthly newsletter, and organiz-ing their community National Night Out. Bob enjoyed many intrest and activities including golf, history, genealogy, travel, and photography along with serving his church and community. Bob was a loving husband, father and grandfather who enjoyed spending time with his family. Because of his outgoing personality and great sense of humor, Bob never met a stranger. His servant heart and giving nature made him loved by all who knew him. Memorials may be made to the Saunders Child-ren’s Building at Prestwood Bapt-ist Church located at 6801 West Park Blvd., Plano,TX 75093. A Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, October 23, at 2:00pm in the chapel of Prestonwood Baptist Church. Visitation will be on Wednesday, October 22 from 6:00 8:00 pm at Restland Funeral Home.
