Yorn Im's Obituary
Yorn Im was born in a small farm around Sonlon, Khat Takeo, Cambodia to Kolt and Ouch Im on March 28, 1950. He was one of seven kids that Kolt and Ouch had borne. He was born into a poor family but began to excel in school and eventually graduated in the top of his class. After high school, Yorn left his home town to obtain a higher education. During that time, his sisters and several friends took care of him while he obtained his Bachelor’s and Master’s degree in Cambodia. He would later join the Cambodian Air Force and work as a photographer doing reconnaissance by photographing enemy camps. In 1971, he met Soyani Phok at an American School of English in Phnom Penh, thus beginning a courtship that would last forty four years. Yorn and Soyani would have a son a year later in November 31, 1972 name Mayaseth Im. Unfortunately he would pass away in 1975. In the same year, Cindy Im would be born on November 28, 1975. After escaping from the Cambodian concentration camp, Yorn and his family traveled to Thailand and had a daughter named Carrie Im who was born on March 9, 1980. They would again relocate to the Philippines and have a son named Jason Im. In 1982, Yorn and his family would again relocate to Dallas, TX finally escaping the war in Cambodia with the help of Church World Service. In Dallas, Yorn would work in an antique lamp replication workshop during the morning and as a custodian at North Dallas High School during the evening. There he would bring back books from the school to try and teach his kids the history of the United States as well as reading, writing and arithmetic. Yorn would stress a high value on his children’s education and spend countless hours at night on teaching math to his kids. Later Yorn would save enough money to live the American dream by becoming his own boss. He had bought the antique lamp replication workshop he had worked so many years in and renamed it “Your Home’s Lamps” Yorn would become very active in the Cambodian community specifically the Cambodian United Methodist Fellowship of Carrollton in his later years. At times he would be allow to make a sermon and that would bring a big smile to his face as he spoke about the ever lasting love of Jesus Christ. In addition to his church, Yorn enjoyed biking, walking, fishing and playing with his granddaughter. On February 28, 2015, Yorn would pass away at Baylor University Medical Center suddenly from a stroke. He is preceded by his father, Kolt; his mother, Ouch and son, Mayaseth Im. He is survived by his loving wife, Soyani Phok Im; his two daughters, Cindy and Carrie and his son, Jason. He is also survived by his granddaughter, Cataliya and grandson, Jackson. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends as he ascends to heaven. The visitation for Yorn Im will be from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM, Friday, March 6, 2015 at Restland Funeral Home. The service for Yorn will be held on Saturday, March 7, 2015 at 3:00 PM in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
