Young Geumha Shum's Obituary
It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of Young Geumha Shum, who passed away on March 19th, 2023, at age 63 in Bedford, Texas.
Young was born on June 18th, 1959, in Seoul, Korea, to a respectful family of educators. Her father, the late IL Hoon Lee, was a school headmaster, and her mother, Jung Scoup Kim, was a distinguished scholar. Young graduated from San Yook University in 1983 with a degree in nutrition and became a licensed dietitian.
In 1990, Young moved to the United States with her two siblings. In 1993, she met her first love, Nixon Shum, and together they became business and life partners. They had their first and only child, Gordon Tiger Shum, in 1996, and built a happy family in Euless.
In 1995, Young and Nixon started a small Italian bistro, which they ran together until 2000, when they started a cleaning service business. Young was a dedicated and hardworking businesswoman who took great pride in her work. Her passion for providing excellent service to her customers and taking care of her crew was only matched by her love of entertaining her family and friends.
Young was a woman of many interests and talents. She loved opera music, modern art, and painting, and was passionate about flower arrangement and interior design. During the holidays, Young would prepare her specialty foods and deliver them to all her close friends and family, who always looked forward to her delicious treats.
Young was a respectful, humble, and caring person who was loved by all who knew her. She was a devoted wife, mother, sister, and friend who will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Young is survived by her husband, Nixon Shum, and their son, Gordon Tiger Shum, as well as her sister Sija Kim, Rimi Lee, her brother Myung Lee, Brother-in-law Norman Shum, Steve Simmons, Mark Siu and Michael Kim. She is also survived by her sister-in-law Jane Simmons, Alice Siu, Emily Jie Wu, Kay Peng, and many cousins, nieces, and nephews.
Young will be remembered for her kindness, generosity, and warm spirit.
