Yupin Han's Obituary
Yupin Han was born in Penglai, a coastal city in Shandong Province, China, to I. Jung Yang and Yin Cheng Han. He passed away peacefully on August 13, 2024, after a life well-lived.
Yupin’s father was a civil engineer, while his mother was a culinary artist, meticulously crafting traditional Chinese dishes like Jiaozi and beef noodle soup from scratch. With keen foresight and bravery, his mother orchestrated the family’s escape to Taiwan during the tumultuous times of the Chinese Communist Revolution.
In 1966, his sister Agnes, who was already in the US, sent him $800 to purchase a one-way ticket from Taiwan to the United States to pursue his Master’s in Electrical Engineering at Wichita State University. It was there that he met Jen, his future wife, while giving her driving lessons. He never complained about her heavy-footed driving; after all, he had only himself to blame. For his PhD in Electrical Engineering, the couple moved to the Missouri University of Science and Technology, where their daughters, Lily and Holly, were born.
Upon completing his PhD, Yupin and his family relocated to Arizona and then to Texas, his home for over 48 years. He had a distinguished career, working for companies like Motorola, Texas Instruments, and Mostek, and was recruited out of retirement to join a start-up funded by AMD Ventures. Over the span of his career, Yupin was awarded over 20 honors and received more than 20 patents. He loved his work so much that he never considered it a job - more like getting paid to create and play with really cool toys. Fast cars, animals, and good food were also on his list of favorite things—especially the fast cars. During his walks, he was known for stopping to pet every dog he encountered, instantly befriending them.
Yupin is survived by his beloved wife Jen Han; his daughters, Dr. Lily Han (married to Dr. Elon Mehr) and Holly Han; his grandchildren, Dr. Noah Mehr (married to Dr. Reem Khondakar), Dr. Joshua Mehr (married to Dr. Brenda Zhou), Jacob Mehr (engaged to Rebecca Gu), Kiki Carson Han, and Kepler Carson Han; and his great-grandson, Ely Mehr.
