The daughter of John Ulatowski, a leading figure in Polish American organizations, and Helen Ulatowski. She attended Bryant and Stratton Business College and Northwestern University. As a young woman, Zenia was very active in the Polish National Alliance in the Chicago area, especially in the 41st Ward. She was appointed the 41st Ward Secretary to Alderman Joseph P. Immel. Typically this position had been held by male secretaries, but due to her experience as a legal stenographer and her wide experience in matters affecting public offices in the city and the county, she was deemed to be the best candidate. During this time, Zenia met her future husband Russell Mueller and they were married on April 10, 1953 in Chicago, IL. Together they raised four daughters, as Zenia delighted in being a home maker to her husband and children. She was also the most gracious of a host to her extended family and neighbors. Her greatest pride was her husband, Russell and the family that their loved produced. She is preceded in death by her husband, Russell, and sons-in-law, Jim Burns and Lee Collins. She is survived by her four daughters and sons-in-laws, Mary Burns, Carol & James Adams, Joan Bailey, and Joyce and Curtis Pullen.
