Zepherine S. Gray's Obituary
Zepherine Smith-Gray was 83 years old on February 28, 2013. She was referred to as Zeph. Zeph was the eldest child of sixteen children from the union of the late Effie Joe and Elvie Smith from Arp, Texas. She was educated and reared in Arp. She united with New Home Baptist Church in Overton, Texas at a very young age. Zeph married Taft C. Gray on November 25, 1949 in Rockwall, Texas. The fusion of these two blessed souls produced seven offsprings. Six are still living. They are James Gray (Kathy) of Moscow Idaho; Betty Shaw (Ted) of Tulsa, Oklahoma; Carrie Jennings (Melvin) of Point, Texas; Taft Gray III (Lesia) of Dallas, Texas; Cornelius Mark Gray (Bertha) of Frisco Texas; and Zepherine Deloris Gray of Rowlett, Texas. Zeph was a devoted housewife and homemaker who enjoyed family life and helping people. She wore many hats in her employment outside the home. She spent the majority of her working career managing custodial services for the Garland ISD. She enjoyed sewing, fishing, supporting her faith, caring for family and people. She loved everyone especially babies. On many occasions Zeph went out of her way to ensure family and friends were securely loved and cared for. Zeph enjoyed traveling and keeping the peace in her neighborhood. Preceded in death by her parents, two brothers and four sisters. Zeph is survived by all six children, twenty grandchildren, twenty-eight great grandchildren. There are a host of other surviving relatives and friends. These are the accumulations and accomplishments of Zepherine Smith-Gray. Funeral Service will be held Saturday, December 14, 2013 at 1:00 PM at Mount Hebron Missionary Baptist Church, Garland, Texas
