Adelle Keahey McLester's Obituary
Adelle Keahey McLester Passed away peacefully on July 7th, 24 days shy of her 102nd birthday in League City, Texas. She was born in Rockwall, Texas on July 31st, 1921. She graduated from Carrollton DeWitt Perry High School in 1939. In 1942 she married Archie H. McLester. Mr. McLester was in the U.S. Army during WWII and was severely injured in December of 1942, while in training for deployment. The injury led him a paraplegic until his passing in 1987. Adelle remained in Farmers Branch, Texas until 2015 when she relocated to the Houston area to be close to family. The couple had one daughter Patricia S. Smith in Webster, Texas. Grandchildren Dr. Jackie Brending Lerbs (Seabrook, Tx), Douglas Fitzpatrick (Webster,Tx), and Archie Fitzpatrick (Friendswood,Tx). In addition, Mrs. McLester has four great grandchildren, Gabrielle Paige Brending and sister Amber Marie Brending of Seabrook and Rosharon respecitvely and Lane and Owen Fitzpatrick of Friendswood. Adelle worked for Neiman Marcus in Downtown Dallas in 1939 and 1940 in sales and marketing. She worked for Sears Roebuck in Dallas in various roles in the early 1940’s and 50’s. In 1954 she went to work for Hunter Hayes Elevator Company as Secretary to the CEO. She remained there until 1976 when she left after having back surgery. Adelle was a member of Cochran Chapel United Methodist Church in Dallas, Texas and was active in many church related activities. She also enjoyed boating and fishing and playing her organ. She was an active member of NWIC, National Women in Construction for many, many years and held various positions including President of the local chapter. She is now together with her beloved husband Archie.
