Quinn, Agnes' Obituary
Agnes Quinn was born on June 22, 1934, to
Robert and Emma Grimes - sharecroppers in Denmark Tennessee She was one of 12 children and what they lacked in terms of material possessions was made up in love and encouragement.
In spite of having to delay the start of each school year until after the harvest, she graduated valedictorian of her class. In addition to being captain and top scorer at West Denmark Highschool's state champion basketball team, she graduated from Lane College and returned to her Alma Mater as a teacher and then coached another team to the state championship.
She married James Poe shortly after college and this brief union resulted in her only son, Kenneth E Poe.
Several years later, she followed her older sister Dorothy to St Louis where she met and married John Wesley Quinn. Shortly thereafter Terre Denise Quinn and Karla Michelle Quinn were born.
In 1960, Ms Quinn, along with her sister Emma DeLoch embarked on a long career in education at Soldan Senior High - and in order to be employed were required to obtain master's degrees in education. In 1965, prior to the civil rights movement, she obtained a master's degree in education from Washington University.
As strongly as she felt about education, she was still more passionate about her faith, and of course, her focus was on youth education. She was a devout Bible Class teacher at Antioch Baptist Church for many years - leading many to their lifelong relationships with Christ.
Her daughter Karla preceded her in death.
She leaves behind one beloved sister, the lovely Ms. Magnolia Crayton,
and her youngest brother, Larry Grimes, along with her children Kenneth Poe and Terre Quinn, and grandsons Malachi Quinn, Julian and Jonathan McGlothin.
