Alberta Kay Gentry's Obituary
GENTRY, ALBERTA KAY (REAGAN) Carrollton resident Alberta Kay Reagan Gentry died Sunday, February 20, 2011, at Baylor Hospital due to complications of long-term diabetes. She was 80. Mrs. Gentry was born to Nerva McCarrell Reagan on September 21, 1930, in Marion, Indiana. The second of three children, Mrs. Gentry attended school in Marion, Indiana. Alberta’s childhood was spent with her two siblings in Marion, Indiana as her mother worked at Anaconda Wire Company there. It is there that she began to dream of working for the airlines. After watching a newsreel of women in aviation in 1952, Alberta decided to move to Houston, Texas and got a job as an airline hostess for Trans Texas Airways. She transferred from TTA in Houston to Dallas, and that is where she met her husband, Rex. On May 26, 1955, Mrs. Gentry married Rex in Dallas, Texas. Mr. Gentry also worked for the Trans Texas Airways and later retired from Continental Airlines. Mrs. Gentry was a devout mother and dedicated worker. She worked for Apple Computers in the 1980s, specifically working on the LISA computer. She also enjoyed working for Neiman Marcus in the 90s and retired from retail work to pursue a writing career. Mrs. Gentry is the co-author of Life after Lettuce and a member of the Dallas Writer’s Guild. Mrs. Gentry was diagnosed with diabetes in 1982, and battled long-term complications from the disease until Sunday, February 20, 2010. Her family takes great comfort in knowing she now is with her mother, Nerva. Mrs. Gentry is survived by her husband of 55 years, Mr. Rex Glenn Gentry, Sr of Carrollton, Texas; Children: Colonel Robin and (his wife) Cydnee Gentry of Fort Lee, Virginia and Mr. Rex Glenn Gentry, Jr of Richardson, Texas; Grandchildren: Miss Taylor Gentry and Mr. Ethan Gentry of Fort Lee, Virginia; Sister: Myra Carrico of Marion, Indiana; Brother Donald Reagan of Marion, Indiana; and nieces, nephews and close friends. Services will be held at 10:00AM, Friday, February 25, 2011, at Restland Widlwood Chapel, on Greenville Avenue Dallas, Texas. Steve Oliver will preside over the ceremony. A private gathering for family and close friends will be held at Restland Home.
