Alta Petrey's Obituary
Alta Reed Petrey departed this life August 5, 2015, at the age of 94. She was born January 2, 1921, in Alto, Texas to Sidney and Allene Sartain Reed. From early childhood Alta wanted to teach elementary children, and for forty years she did what she enjoyed most — experiencing the learning process of eager children. Alta was a born story teller using that skill with her students, her grandchildren, and numerous adults. After retirement she did book reviews for various clubs and church groups in the Dallas area. She taught a Sunday school class for years. As a substitute teacher, she often taught with a moment’s notice. Alta was preceded in death by her parents and her husband of sixty three years, Carl. She is survived by her two sons and their wives — Carl W. and wife Bonnie of Wylie, Greg and wife Sara of North Richland Hills; Granddaughters Kelli Haas and husband Dennis of Wylie, Kacie Nix and husband Paul of Haltom City, and Kodie Rabroker and husband Justin of Carrollton; and, five great grandchildren. She is also survived by her only sister, Frances Johnson of Lufkin Texas, and her family. She will be missed by a host of friends and former students. Visitation will be Monday, August 10, 2015, from 6:00pm to 8:00pm at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave, Dallas Texas 75243. Services will be Tuesday, August 11, 2015, at 3:00pm in the Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the James Landes Scholarship Fund at First Baptist Church, 1001 North Central Expressway, Richardson, Texas 75080. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
