I am sad to hear a beautiful person has passed over. I got to know Jan when she moved right next store to our dress shop in Northbrook, Illinois. Jan was a great customer that we ended up hiring. Jan did not need the job, but it was something for her to do, and we had great fun! Our family took her in, and she was at every holiday meal. My mother and sister went to Europe with her one year. Then my family moved away, and unfortunately, we lost touch. About 15 years ago, all of us sisters got together with Jan for a reunion in Chicago. She was the kindest, most generous person I have ever known. Just the other day, I was unpacking some of the wonderful gifts she brought back for me from one of her many travels. Jan was also one of the smartest people I have known. She spoke fondly of her wonderful family, and now she is with them, and my parents too. Miss you Jan!

Miss Jan was an amazing woman. We where neighbors when we lived in Rockwall. She was a good friend and was so very kind to our family. My kids called her Miss Jan and had adopted her as one of our own. We will truly miss her! Jamie, Joe and Kylie , Joseph Smothers

Jan Massey and my father Jack Durkin worked together at United. They were their own mutual admiration society. Jan got adopted by the Durkin family and after Dad died, we looked forward to sharing time with her when she was in Chicago. Jan was my birthday buddy. We shared the same birth date-just 15 years apart. I loved hearing her share her stories about her family. She was so proud of her nieces and nephews. I have just learned of her passing and we are all so sad. A great lady has left us. We'll miss her food and wine conversations, her ever up to date news on technologies, her stories of her travels and her full embrace of life. She was one of a kind and we were blessed to know her. Our baby sitter canceled on us and Jan said…bring Kyle. It was his first formal dinner party and he and Jan danced away the night to Abba!

I worked with Jan at Whirlpool in Michigan . On a winter holiday weekend Jan had invited my family and I to her home. We started towards her home, however due to very poor weather conditions, we turned around and barely made it home. My family at the time was one daughter under 2 and my pregnant wife (due in less than 2 weeks). I called and apologized to Jan for not making it to her home. Jan and Mark Laminack packed up the party foods from her home and came to my home in Mark's 4 wheel drive vehicle. And we had the fun at our home. That is Jan for you …. she would come for you fun or work no mater what. I have a great respect for Jan's intellect, directness and fun ways. I use to talk with her sometimes when she was researching some type of technology items. I know Bob Metz (one of the greatest coders I have ever met) would speak highly of Jan as well. Jan and Bob worked together when they were implementing new technology to use for the Whirlpool Customer Call Center. Hopefully they are talking right now as Bob recently died due to Brain Cancer.
