As our Aunt Barbara, she was a grand, stylish lady who loved her dogs and had strong opinions. I loved her dearly as she was also my godmother. I remember the day I picked her up from the airport because she was in town for my wedding. As we were driving, she asked me details of the next day’s nuptials including about my wedding bouquet. As I had planned to carry a mixed collection of flowers, I described that it would be colorful. She replied “as long as it’s not yellow roses, I do not like yellow roses” . Of course, I had yellow roses as the main flowers in the bouquet. I thought to myself how can this Texas lady dislike yellow roses and what about the popular classic song with lyrics “She’s the Yellow Rose of Texas”. I just smiled and knew she’d have a chuckle tomorrow. Well, she’s laughing now in heaven. Reunited with those she loves. I’d like to think this Texas gal will shine on us once in awhile and make everything all right. With Love, Laurie DeBoer May
