Ben R. Carriker's Obituary
Ben was born into the loving family of Ben L. and Rosella Carriker in Chandler, OK on January 3, 1944. He later graduated from Follett High School in Follett, TX. Upon graduation he joined the Marine Corps, where he served for 4 years. In 1966 he met and married Jill Gibson. They made their home in Dallas and went on to have two children, Carri and Adam.Always the entrepreneur, Ben’s first business venture was a meat company called Steakmakers, where he took pride in serving his many customers. In 1970 he found what would become his life’s work and joined an industrial supply company as a salesperson. Rising quickly through the ranks, Ben eventually purchased the company in 1980 and rapidly expanded it. Eagle Brush & Chemical became a successful enterprise, trusted by its customers, respected by its competitors and revered by its employees, who took their cues from Ben’s leadership and amazingly strong work ethic.Ben dedicated his life to his career, his community and most importantly his family. A teacher, a coach and the first person many, who knew him, would go to if they had a question, Ben never knew a challenge that he didn’t meet head on. His hobbies included keeping up with news, politics and current events, investing in the stock market, fishing and playing craps in Las Vegas.On March 29, 2018, Ben finally found peace after a lengthy battle with lymphoma. He is preceded in death by his parents and beloved sister, Mattie Lou. He will live forever in the fond memories of his wife, children, son-in-law James Powell, grandchildren Taylor and Jake, business associates and several dear friends including Gary Wieser, Glen Love and Glen Barrett.Funeral service will be held at 2:30pm, Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at Restland Funeral Home in the Memorial Chapel with Rev. Earnest Walt officiating. Interment will follow at Restland Memorial Park in the Garden of Inspiration.Arrangements are under the care of Restland Funeral Home located at 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas 75243.
