Betsy Bingman Jackson's Obituary
Betsy Bingman Jackson, “Honey,” lifelong resident of Dallas, joined her Lord and Savior the morning of January 30 just before her 81st birthday.
Born February 4, 1943, as the only child to the late Dorothy and Herman Bingman in Dallas, Betsy graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and attended SMU as a music major prior to her marriage to Clyde C. Jackson, Jr. Clyde and Betsy traveled the world for 61 years and especially enjoyed taking their famous “Jackson Family Trips” with all the children and grandchildren, as well as numerous trips to Africa where they built eight schools and churches, among them the Imbirikani Girls School outside of Nairobi, Kenya which they founded 18 years ago.
Betsy was full of love for everyone that she ever met. She loved traveling, buying gifts for others, and tending to her famous and beloved gardens, filled with flowers and plants of every color. Strong in her faith, Betsy was a member of Highland Park Presbyterian Church for over 50 years.
Above all, Betsy was a devoted, loving wife, mother, grandmother to eleven, great-grandmother to one, and a friend to all who knew her.
Betsy is survived by Clyde, her loving husband of 62 years this April; her oldest son, Michael, wife Kathy, and children Lauren Jackson, Ashley & Travis Walters, and Mitchell Jackson; son Christopher, wife Cari, and children Mercy, Carson, Meadow, Melody, Mack, Hannah Claire, and Chip Jackson; son Jonathan, wife Cheyenne, and child Stevie Anne Jackson.
Betsy’s family wishes to express their immeasurable gratitude and love to caregivers Irene Manyara Steel and Anne Mwaniki for their comfort and care of Betsy these past three years.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, February 6, at 2:00 pm at Highland Park Presbyterian Church with a reception to follow. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Neema Huruma Foundation (girls’ school in Africa) at nhkenya.org or to Sky Ranch Camps at skyranch.org. Betsy would want everyone to wear something bright and colorful to celebrate her life while rejoicing that she is hosting a garden party in Heaven!
