Bill Erwin Jessup's Obituary
Bill E Jessup, P.E., a loving husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather passed away on September 4, 2014 at the age of 83 after a long battle with Alzheimer’s disease. A long-time resident of Dallas, he was born in Atlanta, Georgia, on December 10, 1930 to Talbert D. Jessup and Norma Radloff Jessup. He grew up in Milwaukee, Wisconsin before moving to Dallas in 1945. Bill graduated from Sunset High School and attended what is now the University of Texas at Arlington before being called into active duty as a member of the air marine reserve unit at the Naval Air Station. He served as an aircraft mechanic and navigator during the Korean War in California. He returned to Dallas, and attended SMU receiving his BS in Civil Engineering. He met his wife Marilyn at SMU and they were married on September 1, 1956. Bill worked for Texas Pacific Railroad as a bridge engineer and oversaw the construction of two railroad bridges over the Gulf Intracostal Canal in Louisiana. He returned to Dallas in 1962 and worked for City of Dallas Public Works Department until his retirement in 1992. He was active in Texas Society of Professional Engineers (TSPE) and American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) serving as president of both organizations’ Dallas chapters. Honoring 30 years of public service, he received the Sam Greely Award from the American Public Works Associations. Bill is survived by his wife Marilyn; son, James Jessup and wife, Robin Daniels; daughter, Norma Henning and husband, Mike; grandchildren, Justin Delmonico and wife, Rose, William Delmonico, Sarah White; and great grandchildren, Haylee, Layton, Landry and Brooklyn. The visitation for Bill Jessup will be from 1:30 PM to 3:30 PM Sunday, September 7, 2014 at Restland Funeral Home. The funeral service for Bill Jessup will be held on Monday, September 8, 2014 at 10:00 AM at Restland Wildwood Chapel. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Lyle School of Engineering at SMU, or The Alzheimer’s Association. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, Dallas, TX 75238.
