Bing was a wonderful gentle soul. I will miss him dearly along side many others who came to know him at Walnut Place. The pleasure of knowing him and his exceptional wife has only brought me joy . My job as Transportation for Walnut Place has allowed me to assist them when they needed it the most ,also allowing for some very special memories we shared. Love and Peace to the entire family. Bill and I fondly remember Bing and one of the kindest and gentlest people we've ever known. We shared many happy times during Bible study gatherings and occasional outing to go out to dinner. He is genuinely missed.
We first met Oom (Uncle) Lex in 1985 when we stayed at his home in Oklahoma City. Though we never met him before (he and our father were childhood friends), he and Tante (Auntie) Lie Nie immediately made us feel at home. We'll always remember his generosity, hospitality, gregarious laughter, and sense of humor. He was humble, had a genuine interest in people, and mastered the art of conversation. Reading his short biography, one cannot help to think that his humbleness masked a brilliant and sharp mind. To obtain a law degree in the Netherlands (with a legal system of Civil Law) is one thing, but to obtain a second one in the US (with an entirely different legal system of Common Law), like what Oom Lex achieved, is nothing short of amazing. Oom Lex will be sorely missed. But the five days we spent with him and Tante Lie Nie in OK City (and a brief encounter in San Francisco later on) will be cherished. "The greatness of a man is not in how much wealth he acquires," Bob Marley once said, "but in his integrity and his ability to affect those around him positively." In this regard, Oom Lex was truly a great man and his family was extremely fortunate to have him around. Our thoughts and deepest sympathy are with Tante Lie Nie and the family. Dear Uncle Lex, You will be remembered as a man full of energy with a lot of compassion and love, always interested in other one's view and in different ways of life. A very open man with a broad smile and tons of humor, fond of his lovely wife and his family. Only one thing I remember as a child you did not like: mowing the grass on 4705 NW 69th street Oklahoma City. You did like icecream though. A lots of icecream. Mountains of icecream. In Dallas we, Renu and me, were even roaming in the night in search for an icecream! We all love you!
