Bing Han Poh's Obituary
Bing Han Poh was born in Batu, Indonesia on April 12, 1927 and passed away on April 10, 2017, just before his 90th birthday. He and his 2 sisters grew up during the Dutch colonial rule and the Japanese occupation of Indonesia. After WWII, he moved to Holland to continue his education at the University of Leiden where he attained his law degree. In 1957, Bing married Lienie Liem, the love of his life and with whom he would spend 60 years. In 1960, they immigrated to the United States for better opportunities, but where his law degree was not recognized. He enrolled in night school at Oklahoma City University School of Law, while working several jobs during the day in order to pay for school and provide for his young family. He received his JD and worked as legal counsel to Town and Country Insurance Company for 20 years and American Fidelity for 10 years. One of the proudest moments of his life was when he and his wife became United States Citizens. Bing was an active member of the Rotary Club of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma Asia Society and a devoted member of Westminster Presbyterian Church, before moving to Texas in 2000. He traveled extensively with family and friends, had a love of world history and geography, the gift of languages, and a keen sense of humor, but always put his family first even as his career matured. He was a loving son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He is preceded in death by his parents, Boen Tjiang and Liang Kwee, and his sister, Elly Setiadi. He is survived by his wife, Lienie, daughter and son in law, RuLan and Dr. Robert F. Hebeler, Jr. of Dallas, daughter, SueLin Poh of Petaluma, CA, his sister, Jenny Tandean, Indonesia, 5 grandchildren whom he adored, 3 great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews. The family wishes to thank the nurses and staff at Walnut Place for their wonderful and loving care of Bing. A private family memorial service will be held this Friday at Wildwood Chapel, Restland Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, you can make a donation to Bing’s favorite charities-Veterans of Foreign Wars and Smile Train.
