His parents passed away within a few days of each other around the time of his fifth birthday. Boyd, his brother, and their older sister were placed at the Methodist Children’s Home in Waco, Texas where they lived until each graduated high school. After returning from Korea he married “the prettiest girl in the world,” John Atkins on April 19, 1955 at St John’s United Methodist Church. He and John were married for more than 54 years. They had two sons, Boyd Jones, Jr. and Brian Jones. Boyd was an active member of Boy Scout Troop 636 serving in several positions including Scoutmaster. Boyd proudly helped nurture many young men through their teenage years but was most proud of seeing both sons achieve the rank of Eagle Scout. He continued volunteering with the Scouts for many years earning many accolades including the Silver Beaver award.
Boyd and John were long-time members of White Rock United Methodist Church and the Harmony class where they had many friends. Boyd often enjoyed leading the singing during their Sunday school class and was a proud member of the Walk to Emmaus ministry.
