Bruce Rutherford Lane's Obituary
Bruce Rutherford Lane was born on July 5th, 1933 on a farm three miles south of Blooming Grove, TX. His parents were Lizzie Moody Lane and James Albert Lane. He was an SMU graduate, a track runner, and joined the Air Force ROTC. After college he earned his flight wings and became a flight crew member of the 11th Air Refueling Squadron and flew on KC97 Tankers as a navigator. While in Alaska, the 11th Air Refueling Squadron refueled the first ’round the world nonstop flight’ in three different locations in the western part of the world. He has also been a member of the U.S. Coast Guard Auxillary. He could have had a career with the military but he chose to return to civilian life resuming his work in the restaurant equipment business. Bruce was a distributor for Taylor Freezers and loved the ice cream business. He saw many changes in the industry and always had a story to share. Bruce was a country boy at heart and always remembered his hometown and loved ones in Blooming Grove. His teacher Mrs. Ruth Ramsey encouraged and inspired him to be all he could be. She made a great impression on him. He and his High School Classmates established a scholarship fund in memory of Mrs. Ramsey for the students in the Blooming Grove School District. During the 20 years of the Ruth Ramsey Scholarship Fund, many ex-students have established other scholarships in honor of their loved ones. He and his classmates also established a WWII memorial in Blooming Grove. Even though he resided in Dallas, Bruce stayed heavily active and involved with his hometown till the very end. He also enjoyed being involved with the BG Historical Society. Doing things to better his hometown and getting together with friends really brought joy to his heart. Asides from passion for his hometown, he loved boating, ranching and being surrounded by his loved ones. He’s preceded in death by his parents Lizzie and Albert Lane, and his brothers Derwood, Jim, and Claude Lane. He’s survived by his wife Cindy Lane and their two children Jim Lane and Joanna Lane Cloutier along with her husband Andre Cloutier. He’s also survived by his sons Bruce Lane Jr., Barry Lane, Benny Lane and their families. He’s survived by his two sisters Mary Ryno and Emma Vinson, his brothers Bob and Beauford Lane and many nieces and nephews.
