Calvin Edward Phillips' Obituary
Calvin Edward Phillips, 85, of Grand Prairie, Texas passed away on April 6, 2021 in Arlington, Texas. He was born on July 14, 1935 to William L. and Catherine Thomas in Kinston, North Carolina. He served in the US Army during the Korean and Vietnam Wars. He was stationed throughout the United States, Heidelberg and Kaiserslautern Germany. He was a Comptroller/Financial Officer of the US Army, Auditor for the US Government Accountability Office, and retired from Ft. Sam Houston in San Antonio, Texas. He was a member of Phi Beta Fraternity, St. Andrews UMC and a Mason. Calvin was an avid sports fan, he enjoyed reading, walking, going to the casino, and spending time with family. He was a loving dad and papa. He is survived by his daughter, Electra Magdalene Kitchin (Mark); brothers, Clarence Battle, Cephus Battle, Rogers Thomas, and Grafton A. Thomas; sisters, Argynella Wilson, Sarah Louise Thomas, Lucy Tyson, Minnie Pearl Johnson, and Edna Hooker; grandchildren, Deniece Langston (Joshua), Marcus Kitchin, and Brandon Kitchin; aunt, Almeta Gillespie; niece, Gladys Treadwell; nephew, David Treadwell; cousin, Dr. Michael Gillespie; and a host of other relatives and friends. He was preceded in death by his wife, Beulah Virginia Phillips; parents, Catherine Thomas and William L. Thomas Sr.; daughter, Rise Kalvina Phillips; brothers, Clarence Phillips, William "Buddy" L. Thomas Jr., and James Robert Thomas; sisters, Sharon Marlow and Susie Durham. In lieu of flowers, memorial may be made to the American Heart Association. Or the Morgan State University ROTC program.
