Charles "Chuck" Ashley Brewer's Obituary
Charles “Chuck” Ashley Brewer, age 62, passed away unexpectedly May 11, 2022, in Carrollton, TX. He was born January 15, 1960, in Dallas, TX the second son and fourth of five children to Claude A. Brewer Jr. and Wilda Jean Truitt Brewer.
Chuck grew up in Dallas where he attended White Rock Elementary and played football, basketball, and baseball in his youth on the YMCA Mustangs coached by his father. He then attended Lake Highlands Junior High where he played football, basketball and pole vaulted on the track team. Then on to Lake Highlands High School where he graduated in 1978 with letters in football and track. He spent two years at Richland Junior college in Dallas before moving on to North Texas State University (now University of North Texas) where he graduated in 1982 with a degree in Marketing. He was a lifelong member and on the cradle role at East Dallas Christian Church, where he also served as a deacon.
He worked at the Country Dinner Playhouse in Dallas while in high school and then as a cook at the original Chili’s on Greenville Avenue while in college. After graduating he worked for Union Carbide in Garland before he took a job at Plastics Manufacturing Company in Oak Cliff, manufacturer of melamine dinnerware and drinkware, in the Inventory Control Department. He later moved into the Retail Sales Department and spent a brief 30 days in Oregon as Western Sales before returning to Dallas working in sales, production, shipping and receiving and Inventory Control.
In his youth he spent many weekends with family at their lake house on Lake Lavon shared with the Hartman and White families. On the way home from the lake on Sunday his father would often stop at the old Gemini drive-in at 75 and Forest Lane in Dallas so the family could take in a movie. He joined the family on summer vacations to the Grand Canyon, Petrified Forest, Carlsbad Caverns, the Red Rock Canyon cliff dwelling Indian ruins, Hoover Dam, the Palisades in the Rocky Mountains of Colorado, Palo Duro Canyon in the Texas Panhandle, and many Fourth of July camping trips to the islands at Lake Texoma.
In 2000, he married Claudia Dettling and moved into her home in Carrollton, TX and in 2003 their daughter Suzie was born. Chuck has been a stay at home dad. His role as daddy was his favorite and most important role of his life. The family enjoyed vacations to Alaska and Hawaii, camping at Lake Texoma, and seeing many sites in Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, and Indiana on the many trips to visit Claudia’s extended family in Michigan. Chuck enjoyed sports, golfing, hunting, fishing, working in his yard and garden, planting flowers, and helping neighbors with any and all projects, as well as sharing his knowledge. He was a wizard at fixing and tinkering a variety of items including mowers, blowers, home appliances, electronics, plumbing and even watches.
Chuck is survived by his wife Claudia Dettling Brewer, daughter Suzanne (Suzie) Brewer, sisters Cindy Davis & husband Mike, Susan Galanopoulos & husband John, Connie Ohm & husband Mike, and brother Claude Brewer & wife Kelli along with many nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
