Charles Herbert Cavender's Obituary
Cavender, Charles Herbert ~ 86, retired Dallas Police Officer, died Wednesday, February 17th, twenty-one years after receiving a heart transplant. He was born November 3, 1924 in Midlothian, Texas. He joined the Dallas Police Department in 1950 and served as a patrolman, detective, and sergeant during his 20 year career. He spent the last 5 years with the department in the Narcotics Division. Upon leaving the Dallas Police Department in 1970, he moved to Austin to work at the University of Texas System. He retired as Assistant Director of Police in 1987. In 1990, Herb received a second chance in life after a heart transplant enabled him to cherish the last 21 years with his family and friends. Many thanks and appreciation for all the love and care Herb received from Patricia Kaiser, Transplant Nurse Coordinator and the UT Southwestern/ St. Paul heart transplant team. Herb is survived by his wife Millie, of 62 years and his four children and their spouses: Vicki & Bobby Wise of Grapevine, Pam & Mark Cavender of Danville, California, Terri & Bill Moorman of Georgetown, and Beth & Brent Cavender of Dallas; plus 11 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Barbara Spurgin and her husband Dale of Lucas; Billy Kirk of Holly Lake; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Virgil & Emma Cavender and his brother E.W. Cavender. A memorial service will be held Monday, February 21, 2011 at 11:00AM at Redeemer Bible Church, 721 Easton Road, in Dallas, Texas.
