Charles Laurence Gott's Obituary
Larry Gott passed from this earth into the glorious presence of the Lord Jesus on May 10, 2020 at the age of seventy-nine. Larry was born in Peoria, Illinois on February 11, 1941, to Charles Morris Gott and Clara Berniece Keene Gott. Larry was preceded in death by his wife Jeannine of thirty-six wonderful years and a sister, Sheryl who preceded him both in birth and in death in 1938. He is survived by his sons: Christopher Jay Gott and David Michael Gott, and daughter Judy Gott-Drummond, and Chris’ spouse, Cara Beadle Gott; grandchildren, Cameron, Charmaine, Samantha, Carlton, and Hunter and great-grandson Cayson, plus nieces Angela, Kim, and Tracy and nephew Richard, and their parents and children.
Larry and his parents moved to Des Moines, Iowa in 1943, where he grew up and graduated from Drake University in 1965 where he received scholastic honors in Retail Merchandising. Upon graduation, he moved to Dallas with his first family (Carol, Chris, and David) where he worked for Sanger Harris Department Stores, Skillern’s Drug Stores, and Pier One Imports in various management roles. From 1974 to 1978 he worked as the office manager for a Christian publishing company. His last twenty-four years before his retirement in 2010 were spent as an oil and gas accountant for Oryx Energy and Nexen Petroleum Company.
Larry met Jeannine Van Buskirk and married on July 25, 1980, where they spent thirty-six years together before the lord called her home. Larry’s second love (next to Jeannine) was learning and teaching the Bible, which he did actively for thirty-five years in church and home settings. In later years, Larry worked with service animals that brought comfort to senior citizens that were residents of senior care centers and other institutions.
