Charles William Horner's Obituary
Charles William “Chuck” Horner, Born on the 15th of June 1932 in Kansas City Missouri, went to be with the Lord on May 15h with his family by his side, courageous to the end, at the age of 76. Known to his family and friends as Chuck, he was a fighter throughout his battle with cancer, far longer than most that have been diagnosed with mesothelioma. At the age of seventeen, he joined the United States Navy and rose to the rank of Chief Petty Officer while serving in both Korea and Vietnam as a Naval Aviator/Flight Engineer on his favorite planes the Super Constellation and C-130 Hercules. This love of aviation continued after retirement as a Colonel in the Commemorative Air Force restoring his most beloved historic WWII Aircraft, the Corsair. He was admired and loved by his family and friends, from those he served with in the Navy and those he worked with at the CAF. Leaving behind is his lovely wife Marlene Horner, for whom he showed his love in a very touching note before his passing. Preceded in his death is his son, Charles W. Horner II and surviving sons Michael Alan, Mark Steven, Craig Wayne, and Dwayne William Horner; brothers, Dexter Lacy and Ralph Horner; and sisters Juanita Cooly, Velma Bridges, and Virgina VanWinkle. Visitation will be held Tuesday May 19th at Restland Funeral Home from 6-8pm with Services the following day at Wildwood Chapel inside Restland Park at 12:30. Graveside services will be at the DFW National Cemetery at 2:30pm. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Commemorative Air Force DFW Wing Corsair Fund. We will miss you always.
