Charles Ray Yates' Obituary
Charles Ray Yates, 86 years old of Carrollton, Texas, passed to his Heavenly home on Monday, October 3, 2022 at Faith Presbretiarn Hospice, T. Boone Pickens Center following a hard-fought battle with cancer.
Charles was born August 8, 1936 in Shelbyville,Texas to Clyde Eugene and Ora Mae (Hooper) Yates. He had two sisters Billie Mardell (Yates) Foyt and Venita "Zell" (Yates) Zetty as well as one brother Jack Harold Yates [infant].
Charles was married-in-love to his partner of 30 years, Richard Arlen Gunter from 1992 to present. Charles was previously married to Nancy Ruth (Starkey) Yates. Charles and Nancy were the proud parents of son Wayne Alan Yates (deceased) & Carol Ann Yates Clark.
Charles enlisted to the United States Air Force in 1957 to 1959. Charles received his Bachelor of Science of Education in 1964 and his Masters of Education in 1969 both from North Texas State University in Denton, Texas.
Charles worked many years as a teacher at several Texas schools educating youth. Following his teaching career he became a Realtor in Abilene, Texas for many years where he assisted hundreds of families to locate and purchase their homes. Charles completed his working career at UT Southwestern by working in the library assisting others seeking to gain knowledge.
Charles was an avid life-long reader. He enjoyed flowers and gardening his entire life. He certainly was blessed with a "green thumb." Charles was an eclectic cook. He was eager to try new cuisines and prepared delicious southern home cookin’. Charles and Richard enjoyed traveling across the US, as well as several European locations.
Charles is survived by Richard Gunter, partner of 30 years of Carrollton, Texas; Carol Clark (daughter), husband Robert of Oklahoma City, OK; Granddaughter Lacy Brooks, husband Greg of Hawley, TX;
Granddaughter Katlin Burnett, husband Adam of Clyde, TX; Great-grandchildren Brantlee & Raylee Brooks and Emmett & Elliott Burnett; Niece Pamela (husband Dave) Henley of Dallas, Texas; Niece Janet (husband Clay) Howard of Madison, AL Nephew Marlon (wife Heather) Zetty of Montgomery, Texas and many great-nieces and nephews, cousins, friends, neighbors and granddog Lucy.
Charles is preceded in death by his parents Clyde & Ora Yates; siblings Billie Foyt, Zell Zetty, & Jack Yates; son Wayne Yates; nephews Michael Foyt and Landon Zetty.

At this time, services for Mr. Charles Yates will be held Sunday, October 9, 2022. at 2p in Wildwood Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
