Cherine Hedge's Obituary
Cherine Byrd Hedge, beloved wife, mother, sister and friend, was born on December 10, 1930, in Dallas, Texas, and went be with her Heavenly father on Thursday, May 19, 2016. She leaves behind a legacy of faith, determination and grace in the face of a valiant fight against a rare form of sarcoma cancer. She chose to serve God at the tender age of 13, and strove each day to set that example for her family, friends, husband and children. Cherine graduated from Dallas’ Adamson High School with honors in 1948. She met the love of her life, Joe Hedge, in 8th grade and they became sweethearts in high school. They then married in 1949 in Dallas. Cherine was responsible for Joe obtaining his geology degree at University of Oklahoma. She then went on to work in the insurance business for several years in both East and South Texas and Dallas. In mid-life after raising her children back in Dallas, she obtained her Texas real estate license in 1980 and partnered with the Dot Morris Agency and eventually worked for over 25 years with Briggs Freeman Real Estate both as office manager and agent until age 84. Additionally, Cherine and her husband Joe were custom home builders in Dallas for over 30 years. Cherine was also an avid tennis player and snow skier who loved to travel. Her kind heart and generous spirit will be greatly missed by her family, church family and the many friends and business associates she touched in her lifetime. She is preceded in death by her parents, Callie and Albert Russell Byrd, and brother Joe Byrd. Cherine leaves behind her beloved and devoted husband of 67 years, Joe Hedge, and is survived by daughter Angela Callaway and husband Michael; daughter Tamara Johnson and husband Alfred; her sister Joy Oakes of Bandera, Texas; and grandchildren Ryan Callaway, Matthew Callaway and wife Betsy, Jordan Callaway, Mallory Johnson, and Parker Johnson, and numerous nieces and nephews. Many thanks to the nurses and staff of Seasons Hospice and Palliative Care Unit at Presbyterian Hospital of Dallas for all their kindness and care for both Cherine and her family. The family would also like to thank Dr. Bijal Modi, M.D. and staff at Texas Oncology for his personal, devoted care. Services will take place at the Memorial Chapel at Restland Funeral Home in Dallas at 1:00pm on Tuesday, May 24, 2016. A private, family burial will take place preceding the service at Restland Memorial Park. The family will receive friends at the home of Joe and Cherine after the service.
