Coo Merle Wells 's Obituary
Merle went to sleep on this earth for her last time April 2, and woke up in the arms of Jesus, her Lord and Savior. She lived life to its fullest, even in her last days wanting to to shop, lunch or go sit by a fire. We are heart broken but rejoice knowing we shall meet again. She was born on Wednesday, January 19, 1927, to her loving and thoughtful parents Stephen Ben Oates and Coo Emily Rhodes in Woodville, Texas. Merle grew up on a farm in Woodville, Texas and was raised by her mother and stepdad, Willie Hubert with their combined families of 8 children. They would later bless her with 2 precious sisters that were her pride and joy. Life was hard helping her parents tend the fields and raise chickens but she always spoke fondly of those good ole days that would end up instilling in her love for family, appreciation for the lil things, and a determination to provide the best for her later years. She grew up in the Assembly of God church, loving the Lord and good ole Gospel music. She lived by the Golden Rule of “do unto others as you would have them do unto you”. Nothing gave her greater joy than helping others. From sending her parents money from her first job in Houston, to helping her newly married sisters and later their children, to working double shifts at TI to help support her husbands horse habit, put kids through college along with raising grandkids. She especially loved traveling to Mexico and going on shopping sprees mainly to buy for others. She was selfless in every sense of the word. If a family member wanted to bring extra people to one of our many family gathering that she always host, she would always say “the more the merrier”! After moving to Dallas, Merle met the love of her life Woody. She caught his eye across the dance floor and he immediately saw that something special in her and they were married 3 months later. He had a precious daughter who she would raise as her own and then the two would have 3 girls of their own. He was a barber coming out of the service and she later became a beautician and they eventually had a shop together but later gave that up to raise her girls. She loved and spoiled all her girls wanting and providing everything in the world for them and later doing the same for all her grandkids. As they became older she would return to
work at TI and later Honeywell to help support the family. She loved her family more than life and they adored her. She left a legacy of living life to its fullest. To love God, to work hard, to not complain, be grateful for your blessings, To love with you whole heart, to be kind, compassionate, serving others, put others first and cherish your family. She leaves behind many hurting hearts but with precious memories of her and her loving spirit that we will all cherish until we meet again.Merle is survived by Daughters; Belinda Kappus of Dallas, TX, Charlotte Drayton of Plano, TX and Pam (Rich) Ruggeri of Dallas, TX, Sisters; Naomi (Charlie) Howard and JoAnn (Tommy) Munselle, 10 grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Daughter Sharon Hossack and Grandson Jim Grant and devoted friends and all the wonderful individuals who knew and loved her.
