Corrie Inez Murphy's Obituary
Corrie Inez McMahan Murphy was born in Yates Community, Hill Country Texas on November 9, 1917. She was the daughter of the late Clarence Attaway McMahan and Beulah Mae (Prichard) McMahan of Hillsboro, Texas. Inez graduated from Hillsboro High School in 1936. She attended Southern Nazarene University in Bethany, Oklahoma. Inez was active in Boy Scouts as a den mother when her two sons were involved. She worked in department store sales and dry cleaning services during her younger years. She served as a faithful and loving wife and was a wonderful mother to her two sons. She was active in church and a believer in Christ and Eternal Life. Inez passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 20, 2009 at East Texas Medical Center in Athens, Texas with a beautiful smile on her face at the end. She will be missed by many and loved eternally. Inez was preceded in death by her parents; two sisters, Eunice Carmichael and Louise Minix; five brothers, Ewell, Austin, Ervin, Ward, and infant brother Herman McMahan. She married Woodrow Wilson Murphy in Bakersfield, California on October 11, 1944 while he was serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps. They were married for 47 years. He preceded her in death in 1991. They lived in Dallas, Texas for several years, and then in Richardson, Texas for over 40 years. Inez is survived by two sons, Wilson Darell Murphy, M.D. and his wife, Roxie, of Trinidad, Texas; and Robert Ward Murphy, PhD and his wife, Chunmei Huang, of Toronto, Canada. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, three step-grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and a number of nieces and nephews. Visitation will be at Restland Funeral Home from 6-8 PM, Sunday, December 27, 2009. A funeral service will be held at 12:30 PM, Monday, December 28, 2009, at Restland’s Wildwood Chapel. Burial will be in Restland Memorial Park next to her husband in the Murphy Estate, Parkview Garden. Pallbearers will be her nephews Ross McMahan, Jack McMahan, David McMahan, Earl Carmichael; step-grandson, Jeremy Gunter; and grandson-in-law, Ryan Andry.
