Daniel Edward Fobert's Obituary
Daniel Edward Fobert, born: Salt Lake City, UT on October 16, 1952, went to sleep in Jesus: Rowlett, Texas on August 8, 2017. Daniel served his country for 4 years as a Marine during the Vietnam War and retired after 40 years as an automotive technician. Proceeded in death by parents Edward and Gloria Fobert. Survived by: Charley Devlin Fobert (wife of 30 years), In laws: Mary Ellen Holmes, Kathy Miller, Kelley & Jimmy Bates; Nephew: BJ Lewis, Nieces: Charlotte Arnold, Ashley Bates and Katie Miller, Great Nieces: Riley and Adalyn Lewis, Zoey Arnold and constant canine companion Cindy. Dan was a problem solver who prided himself on his ability to find better and faster ways to do things without compromising the quality of his work. This gift served him well in his 40 year career as an automotive technician for Chrysler/Dodge. These talents transferred to his hobbies. He was a self-taught master wood worker/turner and luthier. His creativity can been seen in his hand made arch top classical guitars, other handcrafted stringed instruments and beautiful bowls. He authored several articles that were published in various woodworking and luthier magazines. He loved to transfer his wood working talents to other art mediums. He wanted to turn metal so he made a kiln out of bricks, charcoal and a hair dryer and melted aluminum cans for the metal he used to create bells and other knick knacks. He was always looking for a challenge and loved to help Katie with her science and physics projects. She would come up with the idea and they would spend hours designing and redesigning until they had a good basic model. Then Dan would challenge her to take it up a few notches and she ended up with a piece that was not only beautiful but won several competitions. Most recently he began creating art and toys for Zoey, using 3D printing. He learned to use the various design programs, a challenge in its self since he was not computer savvy but he mastered it. In a few months, he was ready to move to two color printing so he ordered a second printer. To his surprise it arrived in a thousand pieces so he began putting it together. He had it up and running when he found the assembly instructions. Needless to say life with Dan was always fun and interesting. I never knew what I was going to find when I arrived home but one thing for sure, those blocks of wood, melted cans and strings of plastic would be transformed into beautiful works of art. Visitation will be held Friday, August 11, 2017, from 6:00 PM to 8:00 PM at Restland Funeral Home. Service will be held Saturday, August 12, 2017, at 3:00 PM in The Abbey Chapel at Restland Funeral Home.
