David Edward Greer Sr.'s Obituary
David Edward Greer, loving husband, devoted son, brother, grandfather, and cherished friend, passed away in McKinney on May 31, 2020. He was 84 years old.
David was born on June 22, 1935, in Dallas, Texas to his parents Wesley and Buna Greer. David was raised in Pleasant Grove, Texas and attended Pleasant Grove High School, where he lettered in four sports - football, baseball, basketball, and track. After high school, David played football at Texas A&M University, Tarleton State University, and Midwestern State University.
On June 9, 1956, he married Peggy Smith whom he met in high school. They were married for 55 years until her death in 2011. They raised a son and daughter, David Jr. and Cindy.
David started at Texas Instruments in February of 1957 and worked there his entire career. He served on the City of Garland Parks and Recreation Board and was instrumental in the development of Garland's local parks.
David was very passionate about youth sports and helped coach multiple teams throughout his life. He loved watching his children and grandchildren compete and play. He spent the latter part of his life actively involved in Flipper Gymnastics.
David will be remembered most for his devotion to his children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren.
David Greer was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Greer, sister Mary Jo Houzvicka, brother-in-law Jerry Houzvicka, and nephew Jerry Jr. Houzvicka.
He is survived by his wife Bobbie Greer, son David Greer Jr. and wife Nancy of Parker, Texas; daughter Cindy and Terry Gambill of Allen, Texas; grandchildren Lindsay and Jacob Sloan, Cody and Courtney Gambill, Taylor Greer, Chase and Caitlyn Gambill, Kayce and Robert Brown; and great grandchildren Collins, Caylor, Connor, and Harper.
