David Thorwald Hansen's Obituary
David T. Hansen died peacefully in his sleep on December 13, 2016 at the age of 98. He is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 68 years, Mervice Hansen. Born in Lakewood, OH in 1918, David co-piloted B-24 Liberator bombers in World War II in the European Theatre; he continued military service in the USAF Reserves and eventually retired as Lt. Col. He met and married Mervice while pilot training in Albany, GA. David worked in all phases of the retail and wholesale liquified petroleum industry and lived in Georgia, Florida, Oklahoma, and Alabama before moving to Plano, TX in 1978. Throughout his career he participated in Rotary International and was founding member and the first president of the Plano Metro Rotary Club. He and Mervice were also charter members of and active in Grace Presbyterian Church for over 30 years. David was a good man, a good son, a patriot of his country, a good husband and father, as well as a good grandfather. He was devoted to his family and was proud of his military service. He is survived by his daughters, Marie R. Hansen and Susan Shelden; grandchildren, Stacy Kimbriel, Ryan Shelden, and Kimberly Shelden Holt; and great grandchildren, Sabrina Kimbriel and Noah Holt. Interment with Military Honors is scheduled for Jan. 7th at 10:00 AM at Restland Cemetery Veterans Gardens. A service celebrating David’s long and well-lived life will be held Jan 7th at 1:00 PM at Grace Presbyterian Church, 4300 W. Park Blvd., Plano, TX followed by a reception. Contributions may be made to Disabled Vets, Grace Presbyterian Organ Fund, or Dallas Morning News Charities. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Restland Funeral Home and Memorial Park, 13005 Greenville Avenue, at Restland Road, Dallas, TX 75243.
