David knew this Chinese restaurant with good food so we all grabbed lunch. At lunch David mentioned he was really just a good Jewish kid. Then we made it to the office and whatever news arose it was bad, and David made the sign of the cross and blessed himself. Someone observed, that’s a curious gesture for a Jewish kid.

But that was David. Full of curiosity, energy and contradictions. And what insight! One thing we know, wherever David is now, he is talking and others are leaning-in to listen. Looking forward to catching up with him again. Meanwhile, peace to his family that he loved so much.

To Dr. Hermann's beautiful family,
There are no words I can express to lighten the sadness on your hearts at this moment, but what I can share is he loved you all dearly. As my assistant principal at YSM we had many deep conversations about more than work. He was very welcoming, even when we both felt the pressures of the world were closing in around us. Nevertheless, his soft-spoken words and one of the most calming voices I have encountered, always made things feel a little easier to bear. We continued to communicate through email and a time did not pass without him mentioning his family. He fought a good fight. Our talks are forever etched in my heart, and I will treasure them forever. My husband and I are wishing you peace at this difficult time.
