David and I became friends in J. L. Long Jr High. One of my most outstanding memories: I started boxing when I was 15. I was sparring with guys at the gym and whoever else. I mentioned it to David and he wanted to go to the gym with me. David and I went at each other like Wildcats! After our second round, one of the coaches called us over and said, “This is just sparring, guys. You don’t try to hurt each other.” That was one of my proudest moments as that coach had a son who was a professional boxer. We sparred twice, with the same results. We had a laugh about it every time we saw each other. He had a dry wit that I will miss, and he listened without judging. You were one of the good ones, brother. Rest In Peace.
