We may have bought a "new" house almost three decades ago, but we never dreamed of the dear friends and next-door-neighbors who would come with it, Dean and Joe Green. We were surprised and somewhat dismayed that our home came with a gate linking our back yard with theirs, but that trepidation quickly disappeared after getting to know Joe and Dean. In fact, when we replace the fence years later, we kept the gate because they lived next door. When I visited Dean and Joe a few weeks ago, I had the delight of talking with them then about how they met. What a wonderfully tag-teamed story they shared, complete with memories of Dean giving up her high heels after meeting Joe, who wasn't quite as tall as his fraternity brother, the guy she's been dating when she and Joe met. Later in my visit, Joe and Dean journeyed through their early marriage, pre-children, complete with tales of camping trips during Joe's time off. As Dean recalled, "If we'd known better, we would have made even more of our time then." Their smiles, laughter, and the light in both their eyes as they reminisced and answered my questions was but a reflection of their continued love and regard for each other. Words cannot express how much we in the Vickrey family will miss our neighbor and our dear friend, Dean, nor can they convey to Joe, John, Linda, and the rest of the Green family the grief we now share with them. Our neighborhood family has lost a beloved matriarch, one we are richer for having known and loved. Love and prayers, Peggy Vickrey, (with Joe and Preston)
You never met kinder people than Joe & Dean Green. Joe always spoke with love & affection about Dean when he would come to our office. I always loved hearing about their trips to Taos and about their life stories through the years. They were true soul-mates & great people! I know Dean will be missed by all those who loved her. Prayers for God's great peace & comfort for Joe & the family during this very difficult time… Melanie Guinn Jerry Adams Bob Cunningham Cunningham Northington Adams PC
