You know how when you were a kid, there was always that one cool mom that you thought you'd like to have? Doris Farmer was that woman for me. Doris, Jimmy & my dad all went to school together. Jimbo & my dad entered the navy & worked together. Doris & Jimmy lived on Tenino & then on Pleasant as I did growing up. It seems the Good Lord puts those people in our path when we need them. I don't remember a time that Mrs. Farmer (Mr. Farmer too) wasn't around with a kind word & a hug for me. Doris encouraged me as her Granny Goodwin did her. One of my favorite memories is of my 16th birthday. She marched across the street with a beautiful, sentimental card & a Heath Bar pie. In my mind, this solidified Doris's spot as my other mother. There were so many occasions and other gifts but nothing that was as important to me as her love & friendship after my daddy & mama went Home. Doris told me about my Nanny Curtsinger who passed on my 1st birthday. We had conversations of crossing picket lines, where all the pets are buried, families & caring for them, faith in God & faith in one another, of sharing and being shared with. I will be eternally grateful for her examples, her love & her kindness. Doris Farmer was the epitome of a good neighbor, friend and my other mother.
