Eddie Jo Gooch's Obituary
Eddie Jo Gooch was born in Merit, Texas on March 19,1928 and slipped quietly into the arms of her Savior and Lord on October 14, 2021. She is preceded in death by her husband Welborn K. Gooch, parents Henry C. and Alta B. Battle and brothers J.L and Claude Battle. She attended Merit High School and East Texas Teacher’s College. Eddie Jo taught Business Administration at Campbell High School and received countless families for a Dallas pediatrician group for twenty-five years. Her most meaningful work was as an ever-present support and devoted mother to their only son, W. Kyle Gooch, the light of her life. A faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church for over fifty years, Eddie Jo served as a teacher to youth and adults and as a member of numerous committees. Her undying love for the Lord was reflected in her ministry to innumerable people through handwritten notes of encouragement, home-cooked meals, hospital and home visits, and most notably, her incomparable homemade pies. A woman of fierce convictions, her family was assured of her daily prayers for them. She was a member of the Eastern Star, DH Chapter of the PEO, and several community book clubs. She was often engaged as a book reviewer and speaker throughout the city and state, frequently focusing on biographical writings about prominent figures. Travel to locations near and far with Welborn and close friends was a favorite pastime. Married from a young age, Welborn and Eddie Jo were inseparable and hopelessly in love with one another. Of utmost importance, she embraced the roles of mother, grandmother and great-grandmother with unwavering dedication through her steadfast care and unconditional love. Eddie Jo is survived by her son, W. Kyle Gooch; daughter-in-law, Suzy Gooch; grandchildren Kelly Gooch, Caitlin Gooch, Clay Gooch, wife Meredith; great-granddaughters, Rachel and Hannah Jo Gooch; niece, Karon Battle; and sister-in-law, LaVerne Battle. The family is truly grateful for the loving care of Prestonwood Court Assisted Living and Faith Presbyterian Hospice.
A celebration of life will be Friday, October 22, at Restland Funeral Home, 13005 Greenville Ave., Dallas, Texas, in the Wildwood Chapel. The family will greet visitors in the chapel between 10:00 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. with a memorial service to follow.
