Eddie Wayne Hanchey's Obituary
Eddie passed away on September 16, 2018, in Dallas, Texas, losing a prolonged battle with COPD. Born in Baton Rouge, Louisiana, on November 8, 1941, he lived in Baton Rouge until being transferred by Blue Cross Blue Shield to Dallas, Texas. He worked for Blue Cross Blue Shield from April 1968, until his retirement in July 2000, reaching the position of Vice President. He then resided in McKinney Texas. Eddie graduated from University High School in 1959; and, then, joined the US Marines Corps. Upon receiving an Honorable Discharge, he attended and graduated from Southwestern State University, Lafayette, Louisiana, where he earned a Bachelor of Business Administration degree. Shortly after finishing High School he married Georgia Bedell and they had one son John Bedell Hanchey. A few years later they divorced; and, he married Pat Dupre. They had two daughters Dana Lea Hanchey and Cady Michelle Hanchey. Eddie enjoyed freshwater fishing, golf, and fantasy sports. He loved to travel domestically and internationally, with many of those trips involved golfing with his buddies. Above all, he loved LSU!!! He was passionate about LSU Tiger sports, especially LSU Tiger football. Geaux Tigers!!!! While he became a Texan for the last portion of his life, Baton Rouge was always his love and was considered home. One of Eddie’s true joys was being with his grandkids and hearing about all their activities. His daughters, Dana and Cady, were the stars of his crown. Eddie shared his love of the Marine Corps with his son John, a fellow Marine, and his son-in-law, Jared, a career Army officer. He also enjoyed weekends with his son-in-law, Elmo, binge-watching Game of Thrones. Family dinners eating great Louisiana food were always the best! Eddie was proceeded in death by his parents–his father Ernest W. Hanchey of El Paso, Texas, and his mother Odell Aymond Hanchey of Cottonport, Louisiana. He is survived by his son John Hanchey (Baton Rouge, LA), Dana and Elmo Gore and their children: Arlee, Avery and Caleb (Bartlesville OK); and Jared and Cady Sunsdahl and their children: Madison, Maegan, and Rebekah (WestPoint, New York). He is also survived by one brother Ernest Hanchey, Jr., and wife Susan (Dallas, TX), and many cousins in Louisiana.
