Eduardo Villanueva's Obituary
Eduardo Villanueva, 94, passed away at his home in Dallas, TX with his wife Evangelina and family by his side on Sunday, November 20, 2022.
Ed was born in 1928 in New Braunfels, Texas to Alvaro and Feliza Villanueva. He was the oldest of 8 siblings. Ed had a 4th grade education and attended Lone Star School in New Braunfels.
Before moving to Dallas in 1955, Ed worked in a bakery, as a busboy, he worked on a sugar beats field, picked cotton, and delivered telegrams on his bike. He worked at the Textile Mill Factory in New Braunfels, and at Reliable Batteries in San Antonio. His big break came when he got a job at Span-O-Life Batteries in New Braunfels. When Span-O-Life had to close its doors, his boss gave him a recommendation letter. He took that letter with him to Dallas and got his first job at Continental Batteries then was employed at Battery Warehouse. Ed later bought DG Battery in 1972, and was co-owner with his son Eddie. He loved working and wished he could have worked, up until he died. He loved the challenge of driving in all kinds of weather; when it was icy, raining, snowing, scorching sun days and foggy days. Nothing deterred him from driving. Speaking of driving, Ed knew Dallas roads like the back of his hand. He could be your Google Maps or GPS System. One time recently, he had fallen and fractured his collarbone. Family called for an ambulance. The paramedic driver later told the family that our dad told them they were going the wrong way to the hospital. Another time, on a snowy day, he was the only employee to show up at work. His boss was so impressed that he was given a bonus.
Ed was a family man. He is the father of Mary, Eddie, Angie and Liz. He is the grand-father to Brian Blackstock, Lindsey James, to Celest, Feliza, and Cecilia Villanueva, Lauren and Aaron Hipps, and Nathan Chase. Ed has 10 great-grandchildren. He was lovingly known as Pop. And was generous with his $2.00 bills, and lots of hugs and kisses. He is preceded in death by his father Alvaro and mother Feliza, brothers Gilbert and Ruben, and sisters Angelita Cantu and Carmen Enriquez, and grand-daughter Feliza Villanueva.
Ed loved his family, and there is no doubt on how much he loved working, visiting friends and relatives, his birthday parties, and talking on the phone. He was a devoted husband, father, brother, business man and friend to many. He opened his home to many family members who needed a fresh start. Ed had an unhealthy heart medically speaking, but a HEART as big as Texas when it came to supporting, helping and loving others. His faith in God sustained him. Ed and Angie would have been married for 75 years on Jan. 11, 2023. They are members of St. Rita Catholic Community Church. Eduardo is survived by his wife Evangelina, his son Eddie, daughters Mary, Angie and Liz, their children and grand-children, his brother Sonny Villanueva, and sisters Connie Monreal and Janie Alvarez.
