Edward Earl Waters' Obituary
Edward Waters was born April 14, 1932 in Dike, Texas to William Roy Waters and Edith Clark Waters. He was the last of three children to complete the family. Ed grew up with brother, William, and sister, Juanita. He graduated high school in Commerce, Texas. He spent 14 years in the Texas National Guard. While attending college at East Texas State University, he was an accomplished boxer in the Golden Gloves League. He had met the love of his life in the fourth grade and courted her through his teens. Martha waited to marry Ed until he had his college degree, so to speed up the process, he worked as a soda jerk for extra money and always gave her an extra scoop of ice cream when she came in. He began his career shortly after graduating college with a BBA as an accountant, learning about the oil and gas industry with Hunt Oil Company. He went on to have a very successful career in the industry, creating his own company and drilled many wells that are still producing to this day.
Martha and Ed were married shortly after in 1953 and began their life together. The two welcomed their first child Edward Earl Waters Jr in 1959 and Douglas Edward Waters in 1964. They raised their children in White Rock United Methodist Church and Ed started Boy Scout Troop 415 to support his son’s adventures through Philmont all the way to Eagle Scout.
His son, Eddie, married Kim Miller Waters in 1986. Kim always considered Edward a second father and found that joining the family was made easier because of him. His granddaughter, Stephanie, was born in 1988 and he seamlessly took on the role of grandfather. Spencer, his grandson followed in 1991. Edward supported his grandchildren in the same manner he did his children, but with a little extra. He taught them how to use a hammer, saw, and spent countless hours outside exploring Texas with them. He, along with Martha, were very involved in their grandchildren's lives. Throughout the years, they were both active members of the Harmony Class at White Rock United Methodist Church and gave back to their community. They also enjoyed traveling with their many friends domestic and international.
The pair was married for 52 years before Martha passed away in 2005. Ed was able to find solace with his family and a group of buddies that met for breakfast together called the R.O.M.E.O. club (retired old men eating out). He continued to support his family at events and even traveled to Colorado in 2018 to be the ring bearer at his granddaughter's wedding. He also enjoyed eating dinner weekly at Eddie and Kim's house with Spencer and supported Doug at the finish lines of his marathons and other races.
Edward passed peacefully on May 29th, 2022 surrounded by family. He was the pillar of our family and will be deeply missed.
He is survived by his sons, Eddie Waters, Jr. (Kim) and Doug Waters; and grandchildren, Stephanie Gaw (Spencer) and Spencer Waters. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the charity of your choice.
