I only worked with and knew O'Neal at IBM in Dallas from 1979-1982. But listening to the live-streamed celebration brought back memories of his soft-spoken smile, his sense of style weaved into the staid IBM dress code of the time, and that picture of him as a Grambling drum major.

Our favorite memory of O'Neal is the same one we've had every time we saw him: his smile and the genuine joy we felt whenever we were lucky enough to spend time with him. From the time we met at IBM in 1979 and figured out that we were both from "Da Boot" (IYKYK), we formed a bond that will last forever. He became the 'Big Brother' I never had.
We will miss him dearly, but we are blessed to have a whole bunch of fond memories to cherish for the rest of our days. And for those times, we will be forever grateful to O'Neal and Alana.
Rest in peace, Brother, and put in a good word for us with the folks guarding the pearly gates! 🙏🏽✊🏽❤️
