Since hearing of Eleanor’s sudden death, I have been mentally wandering down my memory lane of her. It seems like I’ve known her forever; yet, there are only snippets of times we’ve actually spent together. My sister, Marijo, is one of what I call the educational musketeers (Eleanor, Cheryl and Marijo who all started a teaching career together at Edna Rowe Elementary School).
Of course, Eleanor’s perfectly coiffed hair and always fashionable style are the first things that comes to mind when I think of her. And, personality wise, her ability to talk to and draw out anyone to make them feel at ease was legendary.
A special memory is of our Canton shopping adventures with Eleanor, Cheryl, Marijo and me. Eleanor chauffeured us in her Ford Explorer, and verbally planned out our day, which frequently ended with a stop by to visit David and Brooke, and her two GRANDdaughters’. Gosh, how she loved and cherished every moment with them all.
I have recent memories of Eleanor’s optimistic mindset, where obstacles and challenges were met with her “let’s just get on with life”, approach. She loved her trips and travels all over the USA with Don, but particularly held close her love of New Mexico.
There is no way to lesser the shock of Eleanor’s passing. But, if we can reach to a bright spot, perhaps her passing doing what she loved, SHOPPING might help. Eleanor was not a big buyer of stuff, but she enjoyed the experience of looking and seeing new things.
To the McMillian family, I am deeply sorry for your loss.
