Betty and I were solid friends resulting from our Serra Club contacts. Several times we would be on the same American flight to or from Chicago headed for a Serra Club meeting. Many times we waited together for delayed or overbooked flights or bad weather. I learned patience from her especially during those boring delays. She could and DID carry on an interesting conversation even though she was seemingly engrossed at the same time in doing one of those Sudoku puzzles. She seemed to be a whiz at completing those things.
My dear friend Betty was a giving person, willing to take on a new church or Serra Club job with very little coaxing, giving the task her all. She inspired me to imitate her work ethic. Betty Frances Monaghan holds a special niche in my heart.
